This year, SM Foundation gave 1,000 technical-vocational scholarship grants nationwide which is a big jump from its previous average of 100 a year. The assembly started with a blessing of a holy mass and a series of inspiritational talks from key officers of SM Foundation and the scholars themselves which culminated with a special 3D screening of Apocalypse at the SM IMAX Cinema.
The students and teachers of the Paaralang Elementarya ng Tungkong Mangga recently celebrated the ground breaking ceremonies of their upcoming new school building in partnership with SM Prime Holdings through SM Foundation.

SM Foundation recently signed the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF)’s manifesto of support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during the conclusion of the LCF Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Expo.
SM Investments Corporation (SM), the country’s largest conglomerate, has reported significant progress in its sustainability practices which involves its operations, social development programs and environmental conservation efforts. These efforts are disclosed in SM’s 2015 Environmental, Social and Governance Report released on April 27 during the company’s Annual Stockholders’ Meeting.
Education continues to be at the forefront of SM Foundation’s initiatives as it recently took part in the construction of the three-storey Fidel V. Ramos (FVR) Library building at the University of Pangasinan-PHINMA campus in Dagupan City.
SM Foundation turned over its 75th school building to Lucban Elementary School in Baguio City on July 5. The two-storey, four-classroom school building is fully furnished with 4 toilets, 200 armchairs, 4 sets of teacher’s tables and chairs, 8 blackboards, 16 electric wall fans and 4 wall clocks.
Lucban Elementary School is one of the nine central schools of Baguio City. At present, it is the second biggest public elementary school in the City of Pines in terms of teachers and pupil population. The school also offers special science classes from Grades I – III.
While the SM scholarship program supports 1,500 scholars every year, school year 2016-2017 though is unique. There will be fewer scholars matriculating for four- and five-year baccalaureate degrees due to the full implementation of the K-12 basic education curriculum. Grade 10 students of school year 2015-2016 will then be the pioneer Senior High School Students as stipulated in Republic Act 10533 thus becoming the first batch to take on the additional two years of basic education schooling.
SM Foundation’s support to programs geared to improve the quality of education in public schools was recently recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd). New partner in education. MONARK Foundation, Inc. is now among one of the partners of SM Foundation in its education advocacy. A memorandum of agreement was recently signed between the two in line with SM Foundation’s recent announcement of supporting an additional 1,000 technical-vocational students under its scholarship program for 2016. Monark Foundation will be offering the Heavy Equipment Servicing NC II course under the partnership.
