SM scholars now licensed Electronic Engineers

Last April, the Professional Regulation Commission released the list of 2015 Electronics Engineer Licensure passers. Out of the 892 who passed were Danilyn Joy Aquino and Machris Czereanah Flores, two proud SM scholar-graduates.

SM scholars feature: A Matter of Pride

It is a breakthrough year for SM Foundation’s college scholarship program. Of its 264 graduates from 2014-2015, four SM scholars broke the news to their benefactors that they are board topnotchers in their respective licensure examinations between April and May of 2015. Jenes Borais ranked 8th in Civil Engineering, John Angelo Cruz ranked 7th in Civil Engineering, Mark Anthony Teodoro ranked 3rd in Electrical Engineering and Mark Anthony Tiquio ranked 3rd also in Civil Engineering.

SM Group continues Yolanda rehabilitation efforts through partnership with PBSP

SM Investments Corporation (SMIC), through its social development arm SM Foundation, recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to provide 877 chairs and 19 sets of teacher’s tables and chairs to pre-selected public schools for the continued rehabilitation of Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) affected areas.

For the first time, SM Foundation’s college scholarship program marks a breakthrough in the field of engineering as four of its graduates topped the national licensure exams, namely: Mark Anthony Teodoro (Ranked 3rd, Electrical Engineering), Mark Anthony Tiquio (Ranked 3rd, Civil Engineering), John Angelo Cruz (Ranked 7th, Civil Engineering), and Jenes Borais (Ranked 8th, Civil Engineering).  In the past years, SM Foundation has also produced topnotchers in the fields of accounting and education.

Investing in the Future.  On May 27, SM Foundation celebrated the hard work and accomplishments of its 264 scholars-graduates for school year 2014-2015 through a testimonial dinner at the SMX Convention Center. Of these scholars, 62 graduated with Latin honors—2 summa cum laude, 21 magna cum laude, 29 cum laude and 10 with academic distinction.

Medjugorje Uy, 19 years old, grew up in a loving environment despite living in a shack on the edge of a construction dump site. As the daughter of a single parent, she and her mother supported themselves through various odd jobs.

“I’ve worked as a part-time carwash girl, sold rags and even sold lumpiang shangai and maruya with my mother,” Medjugorje recalled.

“I couldn’t ask my mother for the box of donuts she promised when I finished elementary with honors. I couldn’t even ask my father for money to use for my projects and research paper in high school,” SM Foundation Scholar Joebert Palma, Jr., recalled.
