SM Supermalls made September special for lolo and lola by celebrating Grandparents day.
Last September 12, employee volunteers from SM Supermalls, SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc., SM Family Entertainment, Inc. and SM Engineering Design Development Corp. visited various senior citizen centers around their local communities. Dubbed “Show More Care for the Elderly”, the seniors were treated to a day of fun activities such as games, exercises and dancing as well as informative healthcare sessions for common health concerns.
After the event, seniors were also given health consultations, haircuts, toiletry kits and gift packs.
On the same day, SM Cares also held various activities for the elderly inside its malls such as a free concert for seniors by international singers Mark Preston (former member of Lettermen) and John Claude Gummoe (former member of the Cascades). Seniors had fun dancing and jiving to the music during their performance at SM City North EDSA Skydome.
SM also surprised its senior citizen mall greeters and other senior mall goers by partnering with Jollibee to create a fun and memorable grandparents day for them and their families. These mall greeters are under SM Cares’ Casual Employment for Senior Citizens program which gives senior citizens a chance to work in SM malls nationwide as greeters and ushers. To date, SM Cares have already employed 1,033 senior citizens.
SM Supermalls, through SM Cares, champions the needs of seniors by ensuring that they are provided with services for leisure and ease. Its initiatives include courtesy lanes in the malls, complimentary health and fitness classes, and computer literacy sessions. It also conducts programs which encourages the elderly to become more active, engaged and social.
SM Cares focuses on serving its customers and the communities where it operates. Through its programs for the elderly, persons with disabilities, children and youth, women and breastfeeding mothers and Overseas Filipino Workers, SM continues to strive to create a mall for all.
