OPTE reaches out to typhoon victims

Kalinga packs contain ready-to-eat meals and water

SM Foundation promises to always be one of the first responders during calamities. When typhoons Inday and Josie consecutively hit the country in July, SMFI Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) was immediately mobilized to reach out to affected communities.

A total of 9,900 kalinga packs were distributed to affected families with the support of SM City San Mateo in Rizal, SM City Urdaneta (distributed relief packs in Urdaneta, Calasiao, Lingayen in Pangasinan); SM City Rosales (reached out to Rosales and Dagupan in Pangasinan and Dinalupihan in Bataan); SM City Marilao (supported Marilao, Bulacan and Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija) and SM City Bacoor in Cavite. 

In August, typhoon Karding hit Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga and Rizal. A total of 9,750 kalinga packs were given to families in Marikina, Manila, Fariview, and Sta. Mesa in Manila; Marilao, Bulacan; San Mateo, Rizal; Lagundi, Mexico, Lubao, Agustin, Betis and Guagua in Pampanga.

SMFI was also able to support 400 families affected by a fire in Mandaluyong in August.
