Cabanatuan City - SM Foundation launched two batches of Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Farmers’ Training Program-- in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija and Calamba, Laguna. At Barangay Daang Sarile, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija 120 farmers who are beneficiaries of the 4Ps attended the launch before the training starts on February 11. Hon. Melanie Garcia, Brgy Daang Sarile Chairwoman said the choice of their barangay as site of the training program as she exhorted her fellow brangay residents to support the program. Also in attendance were officials from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, City Agricultlure Office and SM City Cabanatuan. Ms. Cristie S. Angeles, Assistant Vice President for SM Foundation Outreach Program and Mr. Emmanuel Demdam of Macondray Philippines also grace the launch. A KSK Batch 182 graduate from Talavera Nueva Ecija, Nr. Freddie Villamael, gave an inspirational message as he thanked SM Foundation for helping him increase his onion production and providing the graduates with the basic skills to become entrepreneurs. Together with some of his batchmates, they formed an association to further improve their skills and help other farmers.
Meanwhile in Calamba, Laguna, 194 participants are learning the rudiments in Plot making, Plastic Mulch Installation, Basal Application of Organic Fertilizer, Lecture and Seed Sowing. A component of SM Foundation’s Livelihood Advocacy, the KSK Farmers’ Training Program was institutionalized by SM founder Mr. Henry Sy Sr. not only to provide Filipino farmers with sustainable training but to develop among younger generations the love for farming.
