Finding Ways to Make a Difference

Mario Deriquito joined BDO Foundation as its president in March of this year. Not new to social development, Mario has devoted his career in creating shared social value and promoting social inclusion and equitable opportunities for the underserved communities.

As the former Undersecretary of the Department of Education, he focused on developing international and local partnerships with APEC, ASEAN, SEAMEO and other bilateral agreements on education to promote the ‘Adopt-A-School’ Program, Brigada Eskwela and other programs. He also designed programs and mobilized support for hard-to-reach learners.

Mario had a long career in the private sector, with Mondragon Foundation and Ayala Foundation, where he was instrumental in shaping and sharpening their CSR thrusts and programs. He was a board member in Association of Foundations (AF) and Philippine Council for NGO Certification (PCNC). He also spearheaded key education initiatives in partnership with the League of Corporation Foundations (LCF), namely May Pag-Asa, TEN Moves and 57-75 Education Reform Movement.

On his vision as BDO Foundation’s new president, Mario shares, “We will continue to focus on disaster response – from relief to rebuilding and rehabilitation in communities affected by calamities.” He will also continue to cultivate employee volunteerism and develop strong partnerships within the bank and with other organizations.

“In its own way, BDO Foundation will continue to remain faithful to the bank’s commitment to ‘great customer experience’ by ensuring that our partners and beneficiaries are satisfied and happy with the quality and relevance of our programs and services,” said Mario. “As we work with communities and other stakeholders, we will continue to find ways to make people’s lives better.”
