SM Foundation has turned over the newly renovated and refurbished First Scout Ranger Regiment Dispensary (FSRR) in Camp Tecson, San Miguel, Bulacan, on March 28.
Camp Tecson is the headquarters of the Philippine Army’s FSRR and the training school where soldiers are given courses to become Scout Rangers and members of the Special Operations Command unit specializing in anti-guerilla jungle warfare, raids, ambushes and sabotage. Around 500 to 1,000 soldier trainees participate in three classes held annually.
The 223.09 sqm. health facility inside the 50-hectare camp accommodates soldiers who suffer injuries from the rigorous training exercises. As the nearest hospital is 12 kilometers away, the dispensary also serves the medical and dental needs of the soldiers’ dependents and the residents of ten nearby barangays. The 24-hour medical and dental unit has the capability of performing minor operations.
What was once a dreary health center now features treatment areas with bright walls and vibrant furnishings. The improved facility has an observation room and patients’ ward with four new beds, dental room, operating room, emergency area, administration and commanding officer’s room. The Foundation also furnished the dispensary with furniture, appliances and medical supplies.
According to SM Foundation Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs Connie Angeles, the project is a manifestation of SM’s appreciation of the AFP’s selfless service in defending the country. At the inauguration, Regiment Commander Col. Rene Gen Paje expressed the gratitude of the soldiers to SM for showing care and sympathy to their needs. He added that SM’s support inspires them and assured the civilian population that everyone can sleep better as they double their security efforts for the homeland.
The camp is near SM City Baliwag, The SM Store Baliwag and Savemore San Idelfonso. These establishments are the Foundation’s partners for the facility’s upkeep and maintenance.
SM recognizes the patriotism of the nation’s soldiers and renovating military health facilities is one of the Foundation’s thrusts to ensure those who take care of security are cared for in return. This is the 22nd military health facility improved by the Foundation and the 127th Felicidad T. Sy Wellness Center.
