“I feel it’s not a one-shot deal activity for publicity purposes.”

Dra. Maria Corazon “Neneng” Maglaya, a former Governor of the Philippine Medical Association, first volunteered with SM Foundation during its Ondoy Disaster Relief efforts. Dra. Maglaya recounted how she was moved at what she saw during the medical mission--among the scene of despair and anguish, was a spark of hope.

One story which struck her was of that an elderly patient in Capiz who complained of prolonged back pain.

The woman recounted the strenuous task she had to do every day as she lived alone—tending to her small field, getting water from the well and even doing housework all by herself. And because she was not well-off, she refused to go regularly to for check-ups with doctors.

“These are the reasons why I continue to volunteer,” Dra. Maglaya shared. “I feel it’s not a one-shot deal activity for publicity purposes,”

Today, Dra. Maglaya continues to share her expertise, her life, and her healing touch to so many patients through SM Foundation’s Medical Missions.
