“All of this was once just a dream--dreams that I thought were just wishful thinking when I was in high school; dreams that I kept on chasing as I studied hard; dreams that I worked hard for as I pursue my career; dreams that are now a reality, inspiring me to do more.”

These were the words of Menzie Ann Victoria, an alumna of the SM Foundation College Scholarship Program, who pursued her dreams despite all odds.

Born to a pre-school teacher mother and a tricycle driver father, Menzie felt early in life that it would be financially difficult for her to continue her schooling until college. With the desire to contribute financially to their family’s everyday needs, Menzie instead thought of taking up a short vocational course and to secure a job right after.

Her despair however, turned into faith when her mom saw the SM Foundation College Scholarship poster in SM City Bacoor. Her heart reached out to God praying, “If it is Your will, please let me pass.”

In 2012, Menzie graduated cum laude from Asia Pacific College with a degree in Computer Science and Information Technology. She recalled the moment where her parents beamed with pride onstage with her as she received her medal and diploma. Her blessings did not stop there--after graduation, she was offered a job in IBM as an application developer.

“This opportunity was a lot of help to me and my family,” Menzie said. “I was able to give my father a new motorcycle, provide a small business for my mother, support my brother through college, renovate our house, and even help my relatives. I was very happy when I was able to drive my very first brand new car! I couldn’t be more thankful,” shared Menzie.

Today, Menzie works with NetSuite as part of its management team. She continues to face the world with confidence and looks towards a brighter future ahead. With all of her success, Menzie continues to be grateful to the Almighty God that she is able to share such happiness with her family.
